I am in love, and I don’t know what I was waiting for. I have put off getting to really know this person, and it’s been my own foolish pride standing in the way, that’s all.
Oh, baby, and it’s so fine. His album Poses, listened to on the way into work this morning, has blown my ugly machine-knitted black work socks right off my feet. I was only listening to him because Christy*, Bethany and I are going to his concert on Friday night (right after they fly in from Atlanta), and I figured I oughtta know him a little bit more. Before this morning, I only knew I liked his Moulin Rouge songs, and I loved the idea of his “Cigarettes and Chocolate Milk” song (two of my favorite things, too).** But I had never taken the time to listen.
Oh, yes. Torchy, campy, bitter and sweet. I’m so in love.
Other news: Have joined the ribby cardie together, and I’m working on the body decreases, going up. I’ve never joined anything this way (only ever worked from the top down) , and I like it. I like everything about this sweater so far, and I’m hoping it stays that way. No more bolero disappointment, please. Pics over the weekend, I promise. Lord, I love me some Jo Sharp.
* His biggest fan – When she learned to knit, she made me and Bethy scarves, and then one for him. A long, skinny, stylin scarf. According to her, he took it and wrapped it (with elan) around his neck.
** Still not smoking. Twenty-one months. And a lot of sweaters.

Congrats on your nicotine free status! I’ll be watching your ribby progess with great interest. I’m not as far as you, still have to knit the sleeves, but am looking forward to putting it all together soon. It has been a UFO for far too long, and I really want to wear this sweater!

Have a blast at the concert and congrats on being smoke free for so long!!

21 months of not smoking is great. Good for you! Knitting is a much better habit. ๐ My mother, and grandmother smoke(d) and knit. Grandma died of a cancer when I was about 12. Mom is holding her own with antioxidents, but the day may well come… So I cheer former smokers whenever possible.

What WERE you waiting for? Rufus is dreamy. Yet another reason to move to Canada, girl. Next thing you know, you’ll be listening to Hawksley Workman, too. Also dreamy. Sigh!

rufus is the only one been able to record a version of hallelujah better than it’s author Leonard Cohen.. you should check it out, it’s one of the most powerful songs i’ve ever heard.
Sadly, it ended up on the Shrek soundtrack –not that i don’t love shrek and all, but i want my deep emotional moments to happen outside of some 3d animated space, maybe in a bed somewhere, i dunno, excuse the tangent– so you should be able to find it..

ps. Hawksley Worskman is insanely great live. I saw him when he opened for The Violent Femmes a few years ago, he came on the stage with a guitar and nothing else. Ripped a loyal femmes crowd right in half and most of us forgot we came to see another band..
He also produced Tegan & Sarah’s first album which was fantastic..
holy crap. I’ve got run-on-commentitis tonight.

RW has always existed on the periphery for me…perhaps that should change, eh? (I threw in that little Canadian “eh” for good measure…I’ll balance it out with a little Minnesotan “you betcha”)
21 months, though–I am SO impressed and SO proud of you! RAWK ON!

i can’t believe you know me and weren’t already head over heels for rufus.

Oh, so my sister isn’t the only one knitting for a popstar instead of for me. She’s threatened to give my (MY!!) socks to John Mayer. We don’t even have the same size feet (I hope).
