October 11, 2005

I saw Yarn!’s Janis knitting the neatest socks ever the other day. She was knitting self-striping socks from an unraveling piece of beautifully dyed machine knitting. There. Think about that for a minute. Dude.

Here you go
. Isn’t that the best idea ever? Check out those gorgeous pieces in the gallery! Look at those kits! Dye your own socks! Nancy Roberts is a geeneeyus.

From her site:

So
what is this inveterate hand knitter doing using a knitting machine? A
knitting machine is yet another tool she can use to personalize yarn
creation. With a knitting machine, she can quickly machine knit
stockinette fabric for multicolor dyeing. Dyeing in the fabric, unlike
dyeing a skein, allows her to produce a yarn with longer repeats of
color, which means in turn that a single color can circle the
circumference of a sweater many times before merging into a new color
or shade.

You know, it’s the little things – Janis mentioned on her blog about pineapple-infused vodka, and I had a drink more than 10 years ago with that, and ever since I’ve been trying to find the jar to make it myself. And there it was. So thank you for pointing to her! ๐Ÿ™‚

Really cool, yet I am baffled by it! Might have to order a kit and try it!

Does this mean I can stop being ashamed of my knitting machine?

I love this link. Thanks. And I love my four (clearing throat) knitting machines.

I am **this** close to buying a knitting machine.
Never thought I’d say that, but it’s true.
I’ve been blaming these thoughts on Bonnemarie and her ‘Fusion’knitting projects…now this! If I don’t get one for Christmas, you can bet I’ll be buying one when Uncle Sam lets go of my hard earned cash.

Dude, I totally don’t get it. Why would you knit something twice?
Spoken like a true product knitter…

When they said that they dyed the yarn so it’d knit up like that, I got real confused. It took me a minute or two before I realized that they were knitting two stranded there… I felt silly!
I’ll see you soon and we can discuss this more over good beer. ๐Ÿ™‚
