Radiance Shawl

December 22, 2011

I made a shawl! I haven't blocked it, and boy, it needs it, but I thought I'd show it to you now, since I think it's super cute when it's bouncy and flouncy like this:

Ravelry link here (I can't seem to find a non-Rav link for the pattern, so if you're not part of Ravelry, you should join!)

It took approximately forever to bind off (but in typical Rachael fashion, I put it away months ago, exHOSSted by it, and when I picked it up last week, I was HALF WAY THROUGH the bind off. Who does that? And then forgets about it? Sheesh).

It's out of Regia sock yarn, and I'm not even sure what kind (but I'll look it up).

Do you think that only knitters like shawls like this? I mean, really, think about it. It was pointed out to me that the only people below the age of 80 wearing shawls are knitters. Does that make us naturally uncool when we wear ours? Or does it make us more cool? I actually wonder this a lot, and while I wore this the other day, I vascillated between thinking I was ultra-hip and uber-out-of-it. I'm (obviously) more comfortable with the latter than I am with the former.

Bonus Digit shot!

To you: Happy holidays, if you celebrate, and if you don't, enjoy the days getting longer. Thanks for being a part of my life this very exciting year. xoox

Ooh, I’m interested to see people’s answers to this. Myself, I love knitting them but I really only wear them either as scarves or as wraps when I’m getting dolled up for something fancy. I don’t really know the answer to the cool-or-not question; I would like to think the former, but the insecure middle-schooler in me fears the latter too much to chance it.

I love my Radiance! It’s a fun pattern, though that bind off is a bitch and a half. XD Yours looks great!

I like to think it makes me uber-cool (but maybe that just proves I’m not). I have a ton of shawls (and more on the needles), and I wear them all the time. If I saved them for dress-up they’d never get worn. Kind of get a kick out of the fact that there are guys at work that say how much they like my “cape”. Does that make me an uber-cool superhero?

As my 14 yr old reminded me today, simply being a mom makes me uncool. I’m sure the shawls cinch it. Yours is beautiful! (And I’ve been known to set aside a pair of mittens that only needs the second thumb…)

I think it depends how you wear it as to wheather you are cool or not. I love shawls therefore they are cool hahaha.

I’m going with uber-cool. Yup. That’s my story and I’m sticking with it. (And your shawl is beautiful, even – or especially – in its flouncy phase!)

Happy Holidays to you and yours, Rachael. I’ve been taking my time reading ‘A Life In Stitches’ and have been really enjoying it.

t may be that only knitters appreciate most of the shawls we knit but that’s OK, we enjoy knitting and wearing them. I love planning what shawl I’ll sport when I go to some knitterly event like Rhinebeck or a local knitting fair.

As for what I celebrate? I’ve decided to be as inclusive as possible this year. I made latkes earlier this week to celebrate Hanukkah, went out for dinner with my husband this evening for Winter Solstice, posted a photo of a Festivus pole on my Facebook page this evening and a festive greeting, will secularly celebrate Christmas on Sunday and borrow some PBS “Eye on the Prize” DVDs next week from the public library to observe Kwanzaa. I enjoy many traditions and a lot of the FOOD (yum!) of the various celebrations. Most of all, I enjoy spending time with friends and family at this time of the year and celebrate our relationships.

I love my shawls and choose to believe that I’m uber-cool when wearing them. I definitely believe that we make our own trends. Knitters rule!

I don’t know usually know what’s cool or not. But I do remember seeing a picture of Kate Middleton wearing a shawl so I guess it’s cool?? I love knitting shawls, but I don’t wear them right now. It’s hard to wear them while wrestling a toddler!

I wear them back to front like a scarf. Like in this picture on flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/46112170@N08/5999333089. I’ve always been a geek though, so it’s probably not cool in the slightest. It keeps me warm, and I like the way it looks so I don’t really care!

Thank you for posting your shawl! I love it! I always want to make what you knit, but I think I’m a much slower knitter. ๐Ÿ™‚ A shawl would take me an entire year.
As far as I can tell, Shawls are in!
What kind of mix is Clementine? She is so cute- she looks like pit/beagle. I have a pit myself- love seeing them in un-pit like pictures i.e. with antlers! Ours sports preppy sweaters when the weather turns cool.
    Merry Christmas!
