How I’m Feeling

March 21, 2004

Like hell. In my comments, Lisa in Oregon said pneumonia is a big wipe-out. That’s about it. This morning, so far, I’ve managed to feed myself a bowl of cereal, feed the cats, and I’ve steamed my head twice. That’s it. And I’m worn out. I feel five times worse than I did when diagnosed on Friday. But I think I feel a wee bit better than I did yesterday (Saturday). I can’t really tell. It’s hard to grade feeling this poorly.

I don’t mean to be such a baby. Whinge. I’m annoying myself.

Just a couple more sentences, ‘cause I’m ready to retreat to the couch again, but I have to quote Nakachi’s comment which made me laugh (bark) out loud:

“goddamn, rachael. new moan ee ah? you run your lungs like you do your tires or what? you and those close calls of yours. i swear. well, i do swear, obviously, but that’s beside the point.”

Hee. I guess it’s not that funny, because it runs right on the edge of Truth I Should Pay Attention To, but the thought of running both my lungs and tires right down to the metal cracks me up. And makes me wonder what else in my life I should have looked at by a professional….

Y’all rock. Thank you.

    Rachel,
Do you have asthma? How did it turn to pneumonia so quickly? You poor thing! You will feel pretty bad for a while, it takes some time to recover. Pneumonia kicks your ass, and just when you think you can lift your head again, there it is to kick you some more. Please take it extra easy! If you need anything, please let me know, Oakland is not that far away. You were able to pour yourself a bowel of cereal? Hell, when I had pneumonia I just laid the box of cereal on my chest and ate whatever happened to fall into my mouth over the course of the day.
    Prescription:
Take 10 billion naps, drink plenty of warm fluids, steam when possible, and blog as needed.

Dearness, if you can’t whine when you have pneumonia–amongst those who adore you–when on earth can you whine? Feel better. xoxo.

I hope you feel better soon! Can’t be fun being this sick but at least you still managed to make me laugh with today’s post! I think now is the time for lots of mindless television and naps!

Baby, whine if you want to! You are allowed to when you are sick, especially when you have a bonafide serious illness. Rest, take those miracle meds and get well soon.

Hey Rachael, snuggle up with a woolly blanket (‘afghan’?), sleep and keep warm. Just wait until you feel really better and don’t try to go back to work too soon – that’s about two days after you get thoroughly bored. Thinking of you.

Awwwww. Pneumonia is the pits. I have had it several times. It makes me just want to lie down somewhere, and be left alone (to die hee!). I remember being in a doctor’s office once eyeing the tile floor as a possible bed. Rest, rest rest. (Like you will have a choice, brushing your hair can feel like too much effort.) Feel better soon hon!

What about today? Feeling any better today? Even if you are, don’t overdo it! I wish I were there to help. Big hugs and non-contagious kisses.

having never had pneumonia, i can’t even begin to imagine- but i hope you feel better soon! i think now is a perfect time to emulate your much wiser kitty-friends… sleep a lot (preferably in sunbeams), eat when you feel like it, drink tea (well, maybe that’s just MY weirdo kitty!), and, in general, pamper yourself until you feel better. And be thankful that you get to curl up on YOUR couch rather than in the hospital! I hope you feel better, sweetie! 🙂

Like you need more advice . . .
But you gotta expect to be totally wiped out for a while. And when you start to feel better TAKE IT SLOW. I overdid it when I was recoverinf from pneumonia and had a relapse and ended up back where I started from.
Sorry to yell there. I just wanted to have your full attention. 😉

You know Rachel, I know you feel like crap, but as I read the comments I hope you can take in just how much you are cared for…by people you may never see face to face or speak to even on the phone. I think it’s sort of a miracle, you know? I’m reminded of an old song “Take good care of yourself, you belong to me”, or rather “us!” 🙂 Lisa in Oregon
