I’m an okay knitter. I’m no Wendy, for gosh’s sake, but no one is (that’s why we worship her). But I’m all right. I can cable. I can do color work. I can do fancy cast-ons and bind-offs.
SO WHY THE HELL CAN’T I MAKE A DECENT I-CORD? They always suck. I know, this one’ll be felted, so I don’t care. But what’s my freaking problem? I alternate between pulling the first stitch taut and leaving it easy. No dice. Still freaky weird loops appear wherever they feel like it, taunting me.
Look:
Bah.
Here’s the Booga J bag, pre-felt: (I love it, you darlings: Rob and Greta!)
Now. Off to bed for a quick nap, then a drive down the coast with the top down (which sounds lovely, but will be more like a buggy race through garlic fields with dry heat in the triple digits), and to the conference tonight.
Enjoy your weekends, folks. Knit a lot. Love a lot, too. Uh huh.

oh my god the bag is GORGEOUS…wave to the fruit stands in GIlroy for me, will ya?
I hate to admit it, but I LOVE to knit i-cord. Total yoga for me…and I have to approach it the same way…BE THE BALL….na na na na….relax, zone out….and oh by the way, since there isn’t any radio reception for a good part of your trip, put in a CD, turn it UP and SING LOUD!

hi, the bag looks great, maybe the i-cord problem is because you are thinking to much…. i for idiot…. zone out a bit and maybe it will even out, tho with felting its all good huh ๐

My i-cord looks like your i-cord–I can’t get it to look all nice either! The best I can do is when I go down a few needle sizes from the recommended. Usually i-cord is done on smaller needles and I find that I have to go down a size or two after that. I did the ChicKamii straps on US 2s, if I remember correctly.
The bag, by the way, is HOT.

I think I knit mine “tight” to keep it uniform. Love the colors on your bag!

How many stitches across is the i-cord? The more stitches the “sloppier” it’s going to look. Going down in needle size might help. Try doing a tug on the cord as you go along. Also, if it’s going to be felted it should even out some in the wash.

I’m with you, kiddo. I made the wide strap Chickami just to avoid i-cord.

Hmmm… looks familiar! Very nice job Rachael. For my I-cord, I really yanked on the first stitch to keep the cord nice and uniform. When I say yank, I mean really give it a good pull… hard!
