Have you noticed that The Artist’s Way is back? Everyone’s doing it again in a way we haven’t seen since we were all wearing flannel shirts tied around our waists.

Back then, I was working in a bookshop where we couldn’t keep it on the shelf. People kept coming in and buying more copies for their friends, heralding themselves as transformed, happy, creative people.

Hey! I wanted that! I bought the book.

What is The Artist’s Way?

By Julia Cameron, The Artist’s Way is a 12-week program in book form that moves you from feeling stuck to being creative, playfully using two main tools:

  • ✓ Daily writing in the Morning Pages
  • ✓ Weekly solo artist date

Back then, I did the whole 12 weeks, and BAM — that’s when I decided I actually wanted to try to be a writer. I switched my major from business to English, dumped a bad boyfriend, and kept writing the morning pages off and on for the past thirty years (ooof).

If you’re looking for transformation, The Artist’s Way is for you. But if you’re looking to keep feeling the same way you are now, probably best to avoid.

“It is very difficult to complain about a situation morning after morning, month after month, without being moved to constructive action. The pages lead us out of despair and into undreamed-of solutions.” — Julia Cameron (I find this an annoying truth. But it works.)

The biggest problem with The Artist’s Way

I’ve worked my way through twice, but I’ve started it a few more times than that.

Honestly, most people who start the program stop a couple of weeks in.

Why? Because it’s hard to keep going with this for 12 full weeks. It’s a deep dive solo project, which is amazing, but that also makes it scary. And sometimes overwhelming.

And I don’t know about you, but I personally need accountability for almost everything. I use accountability to write my books. I use it to exercise. This is true: I tell my wife when I’m going to get in the shower so that I actually follow through (love a bath, hate a shower).

For me, the way to do hard things is in community.

How it works

The Artist’s Way Club

August 6 – October 29, 2026 · Weekly 90-minute Zoom call · Thursdays, 5pm PT / 8pm ET

Each week, we will read one chapter of the week (bring your own copy of the book), do the daily morning pages, and take a solo artist date.

🖥️ Weekly gatherings

Once a week, we’ll gather on Zoom for 90 minutes and work through the questions together. If you’ve done the program before, you’ll know this is where we often drop the ball — together, we’ll answer them in writing and chat about how our weeks went. (Speaking is optional, always.)

💬 Google Groups chat

Throwing it back, list-serv style. Chat with the group by email during the week — choose a daily or weekly digest, hide your personal email, or skip it entirely. Totally optional, and a great place to gab, whine, and celebrate.

You do not have to consider yourself an “artist” of any type to do this. Please bring just yourself, as you are today.

People who have worked with Rachael say:

I’ve taken every creative course there is on the market, but only Rachael makes me feel like it’s not about the course, but it’s about me. At 58, I finally believe in my own creativity.
I feel like I have a little coach Rachael sitting on my shoulder saying softly into my ear, “Yay, you’re doing it!”
Rachael’s honest, positive guidance and encouragement have been vital on my creative journey.
The supportive, positive environment Rachael fostered in her sessions made it almost easy to take chances with my art.

Questions

FAQ

Can I get a refund?

Absolutely. This is 100% refundable until the date of our first class, August 6, 2026.

What do I need before we meet?

Nothing but the book and access to Zoom on your computer or phone.

Are the sessions recorded if I can’t come live?

These sessions are not recorded, for participant privacy. It’s totally okay if you have to miss a session or two — we’ll help you not fall behind.

Do I need to have my camera on?

Yes, please. These are sweet and intimate sessions of real people in real time, so please have your camera on.

I don’t use Google — do I have to do the Google Group thing?

It’s actually just an old-school email thread, and it’s totally optional to join. Some people will love it, others will choose not to partake.

I’m not a writer at all — do I have to do the morning pages, too?

Yep! We all do them. No one will ever read them. You’re safe.

What about that non-reading/media week?

Honestly, that’s the biggest challenge for me, too, and it brings the best rewards. But I’m super glad I won’t be doing it alone.

Where do I get the book?

Anywhere! I always suggest your local indie bookstore, but here’s an Amazon link for convenience. (I have both the paper and the Kindle versions, myself.)

Do you offer any scholarships to this?

I’m sorry, not to this one. But if it’s cost-prohibitive, I do recommend grabbing the book at the library and making the program your own!

How about splitting payments or any discounts?

No splitting payments on this one, sorry, but members of Ink Village do get 25% off! Contact me if you’re a member and need the payment link.

How much time will this take?

20–40 minutes daily for the morning pages (I like to keep it to 25, myself), one artist date a week (1–2 hours), and the weekly 90-minute Zoom.

Can I use AI to write my morning pages?

No. Unless you are a robot, in which case just find a tea monk and wander with them for a while in search of friendship.

Get unstuck. Play. Make a mess. Have fun.
