You want to revise your book…

But you don’t know where to start

It’s just too much. Yep, this is the masterclass for you. There’s a PROCESS to revision that you can learn. I’ll teach it to you. Together, we’ll break through your stopping points and work from start to finish, until you wrestle your unruly first draft into something you can be proud of showing to others — people like agents and editors.

You need real accountability

You’ll work shoulder to shoulder with a small group of people exactly as passionate as you are about actually achieving your dream. You’ll take turns being inspired and inspiring your peers.

90 days. Not six months.

You have 90 days. Not six months. Not a year. No more wasting time. You’ll do the work because of this constraint — and the magic is that your writing will be better for it.

The time is now

It’s never been easy to find the time. But guess what? It’s only going to get harder as life rolls forward. Don’t wait until you have more free time. You’ll never have it. Take the time now. (I’ll help.)

About Rachael

Rachael Herron

I know you. I was you.

For seven solid years (after I got my MFA, mind you), I struggled to write. I couldn’t find the time. When I did, I couldn’t get started. When I did manage to write, my work was crap without solid characters or a believable plot. I hated my work, and worse, I hated myself. And I didn’t know how to fix the words I wrote.

How on earth does a person revise an entire book? How could I tell what was good and separate that from what was bad in my own novel? Then I learned how the process of revision works, and that it’s DOABLE — and even more importantly, learnable.

I’ve written more than two dozen bestselling books since, and I’ve taught my revision methods to countless writers who’ve gone on to publish. Students have even sold to traditional publishers at auction and at pre-empt!

In just 90 days, together with a small group of other serious writers — you will revise your book.

OFFICIAL BIO: Rachael Herron is the internationally bestselling author of more than two dozen books, including thrillers (under R.H. Herron), mainstream fiction, feminist romance, memoir, and nonfiction about writing. She received her MFA in writing from Mills College, Oakland, and she’s taught writing extension workshops at both UC Berkeley and Stanford. A dual New Zealand and American citizen, she lives in Wellington, New Zealand with her banjo-playing wife and brick-eating dog.

Everything you need to revise — and finish — your book.

Turn a bad book into a good book

Did you write a terrible first draft? Excellent! That’s what you’re supposed to do! Now you just need a little help figuring out what to do next. You’re not alone.

Plot structure that works

Do you get stuck wondering how to overlay structure onto the beast you wrote? You’ll work with Rachael on mastering STORY STRUCTURE. You’ll go from stuck to speeding down the narrative highway.

Time management for writers

Where does writing fit into your life? Oh, honey, we’ll find pockets of time you never knew you had. Learn strategies that will allow you to write even on your busiest days.

Revise quickly

Sure, you could spend the next three years trying to revise your novel or memoir. But it won’t be any better than one revised in 90 days (and it might be worse). Fly through this second draft!

Everything you need to get the work done.

Accountability

A weekly 60-minute live Zoom meeting on Tuesdays at 4pm PT / 7pm ET, with time for your questions and a rotating hot seat where you and your book are the main focus at least once during the class. All sessions recorded.

A detailed plan of action

Each week I’ll teach you something new, while at the same time you’ll be revising your book. You’ll have homework — a doable word quota — each week. No critique in class, but you’re welcome to connect with potential critique partners within the group.

Real community

A private Slack channel just for your cohort — for your questions, complaints, exclamations of awe, and expressions of joy. (Seriously. You’re going to want to share the amazingness of what’s going to happen to you.) Yours to keep after class ends along with the weekly Q&As, based on your needs!

Real writers, real results.

“Revision was an impossibly scary mountain before I took this class. Now I know my way up that mountain as if I’d been raised on it. I started and finished my huge revision in her class, and now I’m querying agents!”

M. Henry — 90 Day Revision Graduate

“Rachael breaks down the revision process into easy to understand steps and processes. She stands with us as a peer, a friend, and a true believer that any and all of her students can and should be a published author.”

Michelle Maida — 90 Days to Done and 90 Day Revision Graduate

“The 90 Days to Done and 90 Day Revision classes gave me all the things I didn’t know I needed and was pivotal in creating a safe space to explore and find my writing voice. I will be forever grateful.”

Maggie M — 90 Days to Done and 90 Day Revision Graduate

✗ You’re not a good enough writer yet — just kidding. You can’t wait until you’re good enough. None of us are. Join us anyway.

Frequently Asked Questions:

How does payment work?

Via PayPal (credit/debit card accepted). You’re billed $699 when you join; the next two installments are auto-collected. Or pay $1,998 upfront and save $99. Payment stops automatically when class ends.

What happens after I enroll?

On June 1st I’ll send you a welcome video — your jumping-off point to start the excitement! Our first class is Tuesday June 2nd, 4pm PT / 7pm ET on Zoom, 60 minutes. You don’t have to bring anything except your rough draft and a tiny bit of hope. (I’ll provide the enthusiasm, I promise.)

How long do I have access?

You’ll have access to the recorded sessions and the Slack channel indefinitely — you won’t lose your new accountability buddies.

Can I get a refund?

A full refund is available up until Day One of class. No refunds after that — once the 16 seats are filled and class has started, it wouldn’t be fair to bring in someone else late. Even if you bail before the 2nd or 3rd month’s charges, you’re still on the hook for that auto-payment. You know why? Because paying that money will MAKE you work. #evilgenius

What if I’m not good enough to revise this beast?

You are. I promise. We’ll ALL be revising terrible drafts — don’t you worry. There will even be an optional contest as to who can find the worst prose (and I will try to win, believe me).

Will I be judged or critiqued?

You’ll be judged TO BE AWESOME! I will edit up to 1,000 words of your work during your hot seat week, should you want me to. Otherwise, the second draft is too early for peer critique. You can, however, form relationships with potential new critique partners and perhaps make a writing-love match.

One last thing…

I know you’re nervous. I was terrified the first time I took a serious writing class — one in which someone was EXPECTING me to get the work done. And know what? Everyone else will be nervous, too. That’s okay. Don’t let that stop you from changing your life. The day I figured out that revision was fun, not scary, was one of the best days of my life, bar none. You should try it, too.
