How’s your writing going? Are you reveling in sentences that only YOU can put together? Do you swing from word to word like the sentence monkey you are in the enchanted book jungle?
Or is writing a slog?
Maybe you’re not even writing.
Resistance to writing is normal. The stronger the resistance is, the more important it is that you do it!
RESISTANCE IS INFALLIBLE. Like a magnetized needle floating on a surface of oil, Resistance will unfailingly point to true North — meaning that calling or action it most wants to stop us from doing. We can use this. We can use it as a compass. We can navigate by Resistance, letting it guide us to that calling or action that we must follow before all others. Rule of thumb: The more important a call or action is to our soul’s evolution, the more Resistance we will feel toward pursuing it. – Steven Pressfield, The War of Art
That always makes me feel better to remember. I used to struggle against writing because it was the most important thing to me in my creative world. Now, I just show up and write. It’s as simple as that. (And yes, it’s also as hard as that, I know.)
It helps if you have a community to encourage you.
Do you have a community of writers around you who know what your goals are and who push you to meet them?
If not, or if you want more encouragement than you have now, join us!
Rachael’s Weekly Write Ins
How does it work?
- I’ll be your cheerleader (easily my biggest strength, bar none), your mentor, and your guide.
- We meet on Zoom (an easy, friendly platform). You can have your camera off or on. (I recommend leaving it on because while we’re actually writing, it’s insanely helpful to take a peek at others with their sleepy writing faces on, looking at the screen.) We’ll all be automatically muted while writing, and we are in silence while we write.
- We start with a little chat, and you post your goal that you’re working on. (You keep posting that goal each week until you CRUSH IT.)
- Bring the project you’re working on (or just your journal, as you write about what you want to write about). I’ll also be writing right with you, next to you. My camera will always be on.
- At the end of the session, we’ll chat for a few minutes together in small groups (these people will change each week, so you’re constantly in connection with the whole group) so that you can quickly tell them how you did, and what your next plan for writing is.
- NOTE: This writing time changes every week, and you can come to all the open times or none, totally up to you! It’s drop-in-drop-out – you don’t have to be on time, and you can show up in your jammies!
- I’ll usually (but not always) set up RSW in my morning, in New Zealand time which is anywhere from 3-10 hours behind US time (and ahead a day). Don’t worry, you’ll get a calendar which auto-converts it into your time zone. US, it’ll usually be in your afternoon/evening, Sundays through Thursdays.
- There will be anywhere from 2-8 hours a week to write together!

Is this a class? Are you teaching us?
- Nope, but I’m there to cheerlead, for sure. If you want to take a class with me, feel free to jump on the early-announcement list for 90 Days to Done or 90 Day Revision for the next time I open them.
What if I can’t make all the sessions?
- If you can’t make them all, unfortunately, there’s no makeup for them. Nothing is recorded.
What if I can only make one a week?
- You’re always welcome, for as much or as little time writing with us as you’d like!
