Fifteen-Day Writing Frolic

Find the fun in writing again.

Why Play With Us?

We believe in the joy of writing

Writers whine about writing. (We do it, too). But it's easy to talk about how hard writing is, which can make us forget that the reason we started writing was because it was JOYFUL to put our words on the page. As we play together for fifteen days, you'll remember what it felt like to follow your heart wherever it leads you on (or off) the page.

What if it was easy?

What if writing didn't have to be so hard? What if you showed up for fifteen minutes at a time on a regular basis for fifteen days, and it was just FUN? We'll show you how to show up for yourself, and you'll surprise yourself in the process.

Surprise yourself!

Maybe you've always struggled to get your thoughts on the page. Or perhaps it's been a long time since you looked down at your pen and thought, Wow. I wrote that? How did I even know that? Maybe you're brand new to all of this! Get ready to be repeatedly surprised, friend.

Who We Are:

Rachael Herron writes novels with a side of memoir and has a preference for character-driven plots that often deal with mothers and daughters (no matter how hard she tries to write something else). She believes that learning how to want to be in the writing chair (at least some of the time) is half the battle of being a happy, working writer.

Monna McDiarmid is a writer of fiction, creative non-fiction and poetry as well as a coach and counselor. Her stories feature friendships between kindred spirits which probably dates back to her girlhood love of Anne of Green Gables. She is happiest talking to writers about what keeps them from their work and how they can experience greater ease in their process.

Jason Craig Poole is a word nerd who wants to play in all of the literary sandboxes -- especially poetry, creative nonfiction and fiction. After years of feeling like he was STUCK, he studied how his own mind works and began assembling a writer's toolbox. Thanks to his tools, he's not stuck anymore. (But he still doesn't know how to operate a power saw.)

What You'll Get In This Course

Fifteen Solid Days of Guidance

Every day for fifteen days, you'll get an email from Rachael, Monna, or Jason. Each email will guide you through a playful, joyful prompt with grace and fun and a whole lot of kindness. Do with the prompt as you will! You can't get anything wrong in this class, but you can sure get a whole lot right. (Hint: Right is when your words make you want to have a dance party in your chair.)

Three live Zoom classes.

Our classes will meet on Thursdays at 5pm PT/8pm ET, for one hour, on February 10, 17, and 24, 2022. These will be recorded and you'll get the replay, however it's WAY more fun and exciting to be there in person, so we encourage you to show up if you can. Each of the teachers will lead one class, and we'll have in-class writing, with a heaping side of JOY.

A Community

Community is one of the most important things a writer can have. Here, we'll be together, taking this journey in fun, all at the same time (your teachers included!), sharing our hearts as we go. We'll have a dedicated and private Slack channel (hosted inside Rachael's Onward Writers Slack), for sharing when we're not in class. Everyone will be doing the exact same thing: claiming joy and ease in their gorgeous writing journey.

Kindness. Support. Encouragement.

You know that person who told you that you weren't as good a writer as you thought they were? We're locking them out of this class. Period. The only people in this class will be rooting for you and your happiness.

The Details!

❤️ This is a fifteen-day exercise in finding joy and ease in your writing. ❤️

Writing doesn't have to be hard.

Writing doesn't have to take a lot of time.

All it takes is being willing to play.

Rachael, Monna, and Jason all know firsthand about having, and then losing, the joy in writing. We know how to get it back, and we're going to show you how.

This class if for you if:

  • You're stalled in your writing. (We can help.)
  • You just don't feel like you've got it all figured out. (None of us do!)
  • You want to have fun.  (Oh, yes!)
  • You want to learn. (We can't wait to share and learn next to you.)
  • You want community. (One of the best parts of this!)

Topics covered:

  • Fiction
  • Creative non-fiction (memoir)
  • Poetry

Wait, all three of those? Isn't that, like, all of writing?

  • Yep. All three of those. You'll be able to play in any sandbox you like (or all of them!).

What You Get:

  • Three experienced teachers, all with different styles but the same excitement about finding delight in writing and showing others how to do the same.
  • Three live Zoom classes (you might recognize the beginning, middle, and end 3-act structure, hmmm?)
  • A Slack community in which you will find friends, share your work (if you want to), and celebrate your own, gorgeous creativity, all in a space designed for your safety, joy, and ease.
  • Fifteen unique, inspiring emails specially designed to wake the sense of play and wonder in your writer's heart, daily.
  • All your questions answered, both in class and in Slack!
